Resident Camp

Also, a big shout out to our two Resident Camp partners:

Camp Ondessonk in Ozark hosted a week-long session with horseback riding, riflelry, swimming, archery, handicrafts, canoeing, kayaking and more.

Touch of Nature in Makanda hosted both mini sessions and full week sessions with themed activities for three different age levels - including both camp favorites and fun new activities.

Kudos also goes to our volunteer-ran Resident Camp crew from SU 85 - Wayne/Hamilton/White Counties.

STEM CAMP

Also,  our STEM Program team hosted two science, technology, engineering and math themed camps

Searching for a Last Minute Holiday Gift? How About Girl Scout Camp?!

Looking for something extra for your holiday gift list?  Consider the gift of Girl Scout Camp!  GSSI has opportunities for Summer 2016 available on our website now.

2016 Resident Camp

This summer, Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois is partnering with Touch of Nature (on Little Grassy Lake), Camp Ondessonk (in Ozark, IL) and DuBois Center (DuBois, IL)

Girls attending a mini-session (four days/three nights) or week long session (seven days/six nights) at Touch of Nature will stay in cabins with electricity and air conditioning.  Girls will use flush toilets and covered shower houses during their time at camp.  Camp activities may include swimming in Little Grassy Lake, canoeing, hiking, archery, environmental education, rock climbing (older girls), high ropes (older girls) camp crafts, badge work, and, of course, Girl Scouts songs and camp fires!

Girls attending a week long session (seven days/six nights) at Camp Ondessonk will stay in rustic, three sided cabins.  Girls will use latrines in their unit but have access to flush toilets and shower houses nearby.  Camp activities may include swimming in Lake Saint Isaac, canoeing, archery, riflery, hanicrafts, hiking, horseback riding, challenge courses, overnight campout under the stars, Girl Scout songs and camp fires, and an all-camp marathon to end the week!

Sessions at DuBois Center are being planned with their staff now - more information coming soon!

Plan a Girl Scout Day Camp for Summer '16 in Your Area!

WOW!
Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois already has 18 Day Camps scheduled for 2016.  The most ever...thanks to all of our wonderful day camp volunteers who are committed to providing girls a fun and safe camp and outdoor experience.

Where
Belleville, Charleston, Collinsville, Columbia/Dupo, East St. Louis, Effingham (2), Edwardsville, Granite City, Greenville, Highland, Massac County, O'Fallon, Staunton, UPAC, Waterloo.

In addition, we have two staff run STEAM day camps that will be held at Camp Torqua.

It's Not Too Late
We would love to expand our volunteer day camps so more girls can experience the fun of camp and outdoors.  But to do this, we need the committment of a Day Camp Director to make it happen.  Day Camp directors must commit to two meetings with a GSSI staff member prior to camp, run camp (either day camp or twilight camp), follow GSSI rules and guidelines, and meet one time after camp to just talk about how things went.  Volunteers from their area would also be needed to meet girl/adult ratios.  GSSI Program Managers Carolyn Miener and Emily Stanley will help make it easy and fun for Day Cmap directors and volunteers.  We would like to have day camps here:

Crawford County area
Jefferson County area
Lawrence County area
Marion County area
Randolph County area
Richland County area
Shawnee SU area
Wayne/Hamilton/White County area
