New Girl Scout Program at Missouri Botanical Gardens!

 

 

 

Learn to make your own gifts on a shopping trip to the city! Combine window shopping in the city with a trip to the Missouri Botanical Gardens to learn and make recycled gifts for someone special on your list.

Holiday Eco-Gifts (Brownies/Juniors/Cadettes)
Date: Dec. 6 (deadline 11/19) Time: 9-11 a.m. or 1-3 p.m.
Cost: $13/girls; $8/adults
Place: Missouri Botanical Gardens, St. Louis, MO

Give the gift of green! Girls will learn the environmental benefits of making gifts from recycled materials. Learn how to make plant dyes and revamp old jewelry. Examples of gifts may include earth friendly cleaning products, ornaments, beauty products and more! Fee includes entry into the Gardens. Optional – Visit the Gardenland Express after/before your session at a reduced fee of $3 per person (normally $5) – pay at the Gardens for this optional activity on the day of the session.

 

Cookie College Helps Girl Scouts Study Success

GSSI's Cookie College Program is a hands-on workshop that allows Girl Scouts to learn professional and personal skills from area businesswomen.  Topics covered include customer relations, marketing, financial literacy, business management and more!   Knowledge and experienced gained at Cookie College helps prepare girls for a Girl Scout Cookie Program and to implement the five skills that Girl Scout Product Programs help develop: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

The program is Saturday, Nov. 15 at Kaskaskia College in Centralia.  A session for Daisies and Brownies will run from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.  Daisies will earn their Talk It Up badge and Brownies will learn their Give Back Cookie Badge.   A session for Juniors-Ambassadors will run 1-4 p.m.  Juniors will earn their Marketing badge, Cadettes will earn their Cookie CEO badge, Seniors will earn their My Portfolio badge and Ambassadors will earn their Research & Development badge.

The registration deadline for all attendees is Oct. 15.  The cost is $10 per girl, including badge and $1 per adult.

Spooky Good Fun Awaits at Camp Torqua This October!

Haunted Camp Torqua (Daises & Brownies)

Date: Oct. 18 (deadline 9/25/14)
Session Start Times: 9, 10, 11a.m., 1, 2, 3, OR 4 p.m.

Cost: $8 per girl, $2 per adult
Place: Camp Torqua – Edwardsville, IL

Ghosts, bats and spiders have taken over Camp Torqua! This scary event is sure to be a spine tingling good time for all Daisies & Brownies and their leaders.  Activities include songs, games, a haunted hike, a craft, a visit through a haunted troop house and of course a snack.

 

Zombie Run (Juniors-Ambassadors)

Date:  Oct. 19 (deadline 9/25/14)
Session Start Times: 11am., 12, 1, 2, or 3 p.m.  

Cost:  $15 per girl/adult
Place: Camp Torqua – Edwardsville, IL
Zombies, zombies everywhere!  Obstacles and challenges await you along this fun filled

Course through Camp Torqua.  Stops along the way will have you climbing over obstacles, solving challenges and always dodging those dreaded zombies.  Your patch through the woods will include a visit through a haunted house, creepy graveyards and haunted trails.  It’s one spooky run to the finish where a quarantine party awaits all who dare to take this challenge.  There will be plenty of dancing and celebrating with a local DJ and food for all at the Haunted Diner.  Other activities will include a zombie makeover station, spooky performances and a mad science laboratory.

 

 

 

Older Troops Needed to Run Haunted Camp!

Haunted Camp is an event where Older Girl Scouts host Halloween stations for Daisy & Brownie Girl Scouts.  While every year is a bit different, stations usually include a haunted house and trail, a craft, a song/storytelling session, a game session and a snack break.  Older Girl Scout troops are responsible for planning and hosting their station.

The program is scheduled for Saturday, October 18 at Camp Torqua with set up on Friday night October 17.    Troops are responsible for providing girls and adults to work a station for the whole day and may stay Friday and/or Saturday night at camp.  Troops that wish to work the Haunted House can begin their decorating on the Sunday before the event on October 11 after 12 (noon).

 We will be offering a Zombie Run on Sunday, October 19 for Juniors – Ambassadors.  Older girl troops that helped on Saturday or with set up and clean up for the Zombie Run on Sunday are welcome to participate in the Zombie Run for a reduced rate of just $7.

 

The first planning meeting will be held September 16 at the Pumpkin Patch Lodge at Camp Torqua from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  At least one adult and not more than 3 girls from each troops need to attend this meeting.

 

Funds from Haunted Camp Torqua support GSSI's Outstanding Graduating Girl Scout scholarships presented each spring!

 

 

Best Friends Tea Party Deadline Extended

The deadline for Best Friends Tea Party at Camp Cedar Point has been extended to Sept. 4! This Tea Party is set in the Land of OZ. Girls and their bears will visit Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion at this exciting event ran by older troops. See details: http://bit.ly/VPAiQz

Earn your GSSI Dance Patch (available for $2 each) by attending these dance workshops.  Ballet and cheerleading will be addressed at the Mattoon Academy while Hip Hop will be presented at Heavenly Rhythm.  These workshops will get girls moving and cure cabin fever this winter!

We all love our pets; dogs, cats and other critters!  This event that begins with a Dog Agility show will have girls making dog treats and toys and learning about caring for a pet on their way to earning their Pet’s badge.  Program ends with an exotic pet presentation by Tye Dyed Iguana.

Come and explore acting techniques for body, voice and character development through games, exercises and scene work.  Scott Brady from The Theatre Laboratory will share his expertise and love for theatre with our girls.
